Spring has finally arrived and we welcome warmer weather with our first publication of the year.

It’s been a torrid time for many of us this last year but with Summer on its way, there is hope that we can finally put the struggles and pain of the pandemic behind us.

With that in mind, we’ve put together an issue that will hopefully spread a little bit of positivity. You can start by finding out how you can declutter your life. Giving your home and your mind a thorough Spring clean will make you feel lighter and full of energy. We’ve even hand-picked some self-care treats for you to savour too.

Our recipes page features some delicious dishes that will help you shift some of that lockdown lag while Rhiwbina property blogger Erica Willmott shows you how to get your home ready for Summer. If you’re struggling for space in your garden, we’ve got some great tips to make the most of your limited room.

The warmer weather gives us more time to get out of the house and we have several features that can help you embrace the great outdoors.

First up, we highlight some of the wonderful nature reserves that can be found in and around Cardiff. We’ve also put together details of places where you can go and simply sit and admire the stunning scenery. And if you want to walk in the footsteps of history, we’ve featured some iconic South Wales venues to visit and marvel at.

While we’re on the subject of history, we are honoured to feature old postcards of Tongwynlais that have been provided for us by our friends at CastellCoch.com.

Our featured interview for this issue is with actor Michael Sheen, who spoke to us via Zoom from his apartment in New York, where he was filming. His career started out right here in Cardiff and he told us the story about his rise to prominence.

We are always delighted to hear from local residents and none more so than Ian Kelly, who has penned the wonderful history of Rhiwbina Bowls Club, which is celebrating its centenary this year.

Born in nearby Caerphilly, Tommy Cooper went on to entertain millions for decades. We chart the legendary comedian’s rise from the streets of Caerphilly to the stages of London and TV screens all over the world.

Local trade is the lifeblood of our communities and like us, if you run a small business, you’ll know how difficult life has been during the pandemic. We’ve got some expert tips to help you use social media to boost your visibility and reach, and to help you get back on your feet.

And last but not least, we’ve got a short story that you can settle down to read with a cuppa and maybe a biscuit.
We are thrilled to be able to bring you this Spring issue of Rhiwbina Living but it’s important now more than ever that we support our local businesses and advertisers. It may take a while for things to get back to some sort of normality but if we are there for our local tradespeople, they’ll be there for us when we need them too.

We’ll be back with our Summer issue but until then, enjoy the sun and stay safe.
