Tathams: A Homecoming

Tathams Estate Agents have just opened their new office on Caerphilly Road. But it’s more than just a new office – it’s a move back home

If you’ve been up near Thornhill crossroads lately, you may have noticed a smart new shop front.

Tathams Estate Agents might sound like a new name in the village but nothing could be further from the truth. The business is family-owned and run by brothers Richard and Nicholas Tatham, both Rhiwbina boys – and their family has been part of the North Cardiff community for decades.

“We were both born and grew up in Rhiwbina, and both attended Llanishen Fach Primary and then Whitchurch High School,” says Richard.

“We’ve also both worked in the Deri and the Honey Pot so we’ve probably served you a pint or delivered your newspaper back in the day!” he laughs. It’s safe to say that working together has always proved a success for the two brothers.

Between them, they have over 30 combined years of estate agency experience, having successfully created and developed Online Agent Cardiff and Bay City Living.

The new office on Caerphilly Road is therefore a move back to Rhiwbina for the Tatham brothers from Llandaff North, where they were based for many years.

“Tatham House was established in 2001. It was our father and uncle who purchased the old Post Office and moved their business, PG Insurance, to Rhiwbina.

“Our family history is embedded into the community; both our grandparents were both long-serving local councillors and Tatham Road near our new office named after them.

“Tatham House has now passed to us and the rebrand from our successful hybrid Online Agent Cardiff branding reflects our evolution and exciting new future that mirrors the professionalism of our service.

“We are proud to have refurbished the building, which offers us a fantastic new space that has been a part of the family and the North Cardiff community for over 20 years,” adds Richard. “We are an independent, family-run business; therefore it felt right to put the family name behind the brand.”

Family is at the core of everything Tathams do and this is reflected in the ethics of their non-pushy but detailed and caring approach to moving you.

“Our mortgage partner, Joe of JA Mortgages has worked in the industry for 16 years and has been an Independent Mortgage Adviser since 2012,” says Richard.

“We have worked with Joe for nearly a decade because we trust him implicitly. Joe played football for Rhiwbina with me when we were in our teens. We have remained great friends since and it’s wonderful now that we’re professional colleagues as adults.”
