Llanishen High School announces £300,000 investment

Llanishen-High-School

Llanishen High School has recently announced a significant investment in its school facilities to help students get the most from their studies as part of the Curriculum for Wales.

The school has invested over £300,000 over the last 18 months through a series of projects and renovations.

Its most recent renovation project has been the conversion of a staff room into a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning gym. This has been created to facilitate the health and well-being of the school community and enhance the delivery of the health and wellbeing portion of the curriculum.

The school has also invested in new facilities for its expressive arts courses through technology, as well as the creation of a music recording studio to facilitate the delivery of Music Technology across all year groups, including GCSE and A Level. It has also installed a fully functioning dark room for its Photography courses, while the Drama department has benefitted from new stage lighting and machinery in the West Wing Hall to host school productions.

Speaking of the transformations, headteacher Mrs Sarah Parry said:

“This investment in our school has never been more important, particularly in our ageing buildings. These changes will allow our students to access different parts of the curriculum in a very authentic and meaningful way, giving them access to very relevant subjects that will enhance their success when it comes to exams and their studies, but perhaps more importantly, in their personal growth and development, as lifelong learners.”

Amongst the developments is the extension and enhancement of the school’s polytunnel which was installed in 2020 alongside its garden facilities. Allowing students to plant, nurture, harvest and cook with their produce, the polytunnel has supported the school’s education around sustainability and healthy eating.

Mrs Parry continued:

“We want to ensure that we’re providing well-rounded support for all students who step through our doors, and we understand that they have a very broad range of talents and interests, and success means different things to all of them. We’re striving to create an inclusive learning environment that nurtures individual growth, and this series of investments will go a long way towards supporting that.

“As well as student development, we also wanted to focus on the well-being of our staff, which is why we’ve invested in the creation of new facilities for our hard-working teachers to give them a place to unwind or work uninterrupted.

“Llanishen High School is passionate about creating a student-focused environment that is representative of and caters to, the community and the individual needs of its students,” she added.
