Pupils from Howell’s School Llandaff recently raised £243 for dementia charity Ty Hapus by serving afternoon teas at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Sixty year 7 pupils worked with Cardiff Met’s events and hospitality staff and students across three days to prepare and serve afternoon tea to parents, grandparents and university staff.
Alternating between kitchen and front of house teams, the pupils created a delicious selection of food including salted caramel éclairs, passion fruit financiers, crab tartlets as well as asparagus and parma ham rolls.
The young chefs also devised themes for each session ranging from ‘enchanted forest’ to ‘summer garden’.
Speaking about the initiative, Senior Lecturer in Hospitality, Lisa Wright said:
“We were delighted to welcome pupils from Howell’s School to Cardiff Met – it was great to see them benefit so much from our hospitality suite facilities and the knowledge of our staff and students.
“The pupils were able to focus on a range of skills from team work and communication to leadership and time management – all of which are hugely beneficial to their education and future careers.
“After three days’ hard work it was superb to see how much they had raised for ty Hapus – well done to everyone involved.”
