Locals in Whitchurch are organising a special pool tournament to help raise funds for Cancer Research Wales, as part of the Whitchurch Apprentice Challenge, and are calling on local teams to get involved.
The event will take place on August 7 at the Maltsters Arms in Merthyr Road, Whitchurch – a regular supporter of Cancer Research Wales, which has its offices and laboratories in the nearby Velindre Cancer Centre.
The Whitchurch Apprentice Challenge has been set up to raise over £10,000 for Cancer Research Wales. There are two participating and competing fundraising teams, who are organising events to raise the target amount throughout the summer of 2016, culminating in an auction in October.
Ian Wallace, event organiser and member of the Marvels Pool team, said:
“We’re delighted to be running a pool tournament to help raise funds for Cancer Research Wales. The charity offers a huge amount to our local community and we want to help raise as much money as possible to support their research projects.”
“If there are any pool players in Cardiff who want to take part please get in touch, it would be great to get as many teams as possible to enter. Each team needs a minimum of five players and every penny raised will go straight to the fundraising pot.”
Lisa Jane, the landlady at the Maltsters, said:
“The evening promises to be a really fun occasion for a great cause and there will be lots of other fundraising events throughout the day. We’ll also be hosting a raffle and providing food for all the players, so there is plenty going on.”
If you are interested in entering your team for the pool tournament you can find all the entry details by emailing MaltstersW@sabrain.com.
