Councillor Adrian Robson Inaugurated as Cardiff’s 121st Lord Mayor

Councillor Adrian Robson has been inaugurated as the new Lord Mayor of Cardiff, receiving the official chain of office at a ceremony in County Hall on 22nd May.

A councillor since 2004, Cllr Robson has long represented Rhiwbina and served on key committees, including Planning and Policy Review. His wife, Cllr Jayne Cowan, Cardiff’s longest-serving councillor (since 1999), will act as his Consort. The couple, married in 2003, are the first Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress in over 40 years to both be serving councillors.

Cllr Robson has chosen two charities for his mayoral year: the Forget-Me-Not Chorus, supporting those with dementia through music, and The Rescue Hotel, aiding dogs at Cardiff Dogs Home. Fundraising events will include walks, quizzes, and a gala ball.

At his inauguration, Cllr Robson said:

“It’s an honour to serve Cardiff and support these vital causes, especially during Dementia Action Week.”

Councillor Michael Michael was reappointed Deputy Lord Mayor. A councillor since 1997, he represents Trowbridge and St Mellons and is Cardiff’s first Greek Cypriot Deputy Mayor.

Katherine Harri of the Forget-Me-Not Chorus and Toria Acreman of The Rescue Hotel expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the impact this support will have on their work.

The mayoral term runs until May 2026.
