Cathedral School celebrates GCSE success

GCSE Cathedral School

Following the continued excellence at A Level last week, the Cathedral School is celebrating a very strong set of GCSE results.

Once again, the most common grade achieved was A* and 88% of grades were A*-B.

98% of pupils achieved at least five GCSE grades A*-C (including Mathematics and English). Almost two thirds of all grades were exclusively A*/A. The average performance was the equivalent of just over ten A grades per pupil.

Top performers included Ella Thomas who scored 11A* and a distinction in Further Mathematics. On news of her GCSE results, Ella said: “I am thrilled to have achieved these results and so glad that all of the hard work has paid off. I am very much looking forward to studying Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Art at the Cathedral School sixth form and would like to thank all of my teachers for their fantastic support.”

Among the many students achieving 10A* or better, and joining Ella in the sixth form at the Cathedral School, were Charles Hargrave, who will study Spanish, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and Katherine Shi, who will take Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Religious Studies at A Level. James Knowles will study History, Music, Mathematics and Spanish and Sophia Strinati will take Spanish, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

The new Head of the Cathedral School, Mrs Clare Sherwood said: “I was absolutely delighted to congratulate the pupils this morning on their fantastic GCSE results. Following the School’s continued success at A Level last week, we are all absolutely delighted that Year 11 have done so well which is testament to their hard work and the excellent teaching at the Cathedral School.

“I look forward to welcoming them into the sixth form at the beginning of the September, along with students from other schools, attracted by the small class sizes, strong emphasis upon preparation for top universities, outstanding results and breadth of co-curricular opportunities, especially in music at the Cathedral School.”

The School will host a whole school Open Morning (Nursery-Sixth Form) on Saturday 1st October 2016. For further details, please contact the Registrar on 029 2083 8504 or registrar@cathedral-school.co.uk.
