Rise aiming to help Rhiwbina’s residents through active play

Rise-Rhiwbina

Wellbeing and fitness can often be taken for granted but for those with mobility problems, this isn’t so straightforward.

Rise is dedicated to enhancing physical, mental, and emotional well-being through inclusive, adapted sports and activity programmes. Founded in 2018 by Rob Oyston following his personal recovery from a life-threatening illness, Rise was created to help individuals of all ages and abilities stay active, build confidence, and experience joy through movement, regardless of their physical or cognitive limitations.

At the heart of Rise’s offering is its seated sports programme, a science-led initiative that adapts traditional games, sports, and dance to suit participants’ individual needs. These sessions are designed to be fun, engaging, and interactive, promoting both mental and physical health in a safe environment. The activities are fully inclusive, fostering social interaction and community spirit.

Rise delivers its programmes across a wide range of settings, including care homes, day centres, assisted living facilities, NHS settings, schools, hospices, and corporate events.

And the good news for Rhiwbina residents is that they are now working in the village and are offering taster sessions. They can even offer 1-to-1 support if needed.

Rhiwbina organiser Suzy Mawer told Rhiwbina Living magazine:

“Our seated sessions at Rhiwbina Hub offer different sports each week, and if you are struggling with low mobility, we can provide you with physical, social, and emotional benefits of movement.

“You’ll find yourself developing new skills, becoming part of a team, as well as building confidence and independence. Challenging yourself mentally and physically will make you feel happier and give you a more positive outlook on life.”
