Rhiwbina’s community play is back for 2025!

Calamity-Jane

Rhiwbina’s community play is back after a three-year rest with local councillor Jayne Cowan starring as Calamity Jane in a hilarious send up of life in Rhiwbina.

This year, there is a Wild West theme and the storyline centres around improving the lives of people in Rhiwbina through comedy, music, and song – but as usual, chaos reigns in the Wenallt Corall!

The show is a joint collaboration between ‘Rhiwbina Friends of Tenovus’ and ‘Choirs for Good’ who have worked together to create a fun and entertaining show. Anthea Parker, who has written and directed the production, describes the rehearsals as ‘mayhem.’

“There are laughs every single minute. We are glad to have Jayne Cowan our local councillor back in the show after a break and be assured there are plenty of jokes at her expense in the storyline! She is a great sport though willing to make fun of herself.”

Jayne said:

“It is always a privilege to be part of Rhiwbina’s much-loved community play and this year’s production is no exception. Anthea Parker’s incredible talent for writing and directing these performances has brought so much joy to Rhiwbina over the years. Her dedication along with the hard work and enthusiasm of the entire cast, ensures that each production is full of laughter!

“The serious side of these shows however is raising money for charity and over the last three productions over £12,000 has gone to Tenovus Cancer Care and charities nominated by Beulah United Reformed Church. We are really grateful to them for the use of the Canolfan. This year ‘Choirs for Good’ have joined us. They, like the Tenovus Choirs focus on improving the health and wellbeing of their choir members through fun, inspiring rehearsals and performances. Every year a different charity is supported and in 2025 they have chosen Ty Hafan and Ty Gobaith (The north Wales childrens’ hospice). The proceeds of the production will therefore be shared between these organisations and Tenovus Cancer Care.”

All of the actors in the show are involved with the choirs, but not all have acted before so it’s a new experience for some! Come along and join us for a night of laughter. The performances will be on Thursday and Friday 8th and 9th May at 7.30 and Saturday 10th May at 2 pm for a matinee performance. Tickets are £10.

Tickets can be obtained from Anthea Parker on 07789 448277 or the Tenovus Shop in Rhiwbina. Cash only please for ticket sales (and on the night for raffles, drinks etc.)
