Niall Foster who presents The Big Welsh Wake Up on Nation Radio, weekdays from 6am alongside Ruth Wignall, also of ITV Weather, is set to represent GB in his age group (40-44) at the upcoming European Sprint Duathlon Championships in Kalkar, Germany.
Niall qualified to represent Team GB in his age group with a high placed finish at the Vale Of Glamorgan Duathlon last Spring and will travel to Germany with the team for the race on Saturday 16th April. Niall manages to fit a full time radio job and a young family around training for up to fifteen hours a week, and supplements his training sessions with the twenty mile round trip commute to work by bicycle, getting on the road just after four am, five days a week all year.
Niall told Living Magazines:
“I have brilliant support from my family that allows me to train, and work have been great with the offer of kit sponsorship and allowing me the time off to travel to Germany for the event. I get invaluable coaching from my club Cardiff Triathletes and nutritional support from Etixx Sports Nutrition, one of the main sponsors of my cycling club Cardiff Ajax CC. I’m also well looked after in terms of my cycling equipment and maintenance by Cyclopaedia on Crwys Road, Cardiff. Owner Ian Jeremiah is a former international cyclist who raced for Wales at the commonwealth games and has been excellent in helping with bike fit and all round cycling knowledge.”
Programme Controller at Nation Radio Neil Greenslade said:
“Niall puts us all to shame in work with his training regime, he’s the first at the studios every morning and always seems so full of energy, it’s great to see him doing something he loves and now competing at this level.”
