Cardiff Met one step from Europe

Cardiff Met FC team is putting its game face on as it is one game away from the UEFA Europa League after an exciting play-off semi-final against Barry Town on Saturday, where they won 4-1.

The team is set to play against Cefn Druids AFC in Wrexham in Sunday’s Welsh Premier League Play Off Final, and if they win they will qualify for the Europa League. Last year, Cardiff Met came close to being the first university to achieve this status but narrowly missed out to Bangor City.

The Archers played a thrilling match on Saturday against Barry Town, taking the lead with a goal from Adam Roscrow, before Will Evans doubled the students’ lead. Callum Sainty from Barry Town then put the ball into his own net, before Roscrow added a fourth goal in suitable style.

Cardiff Met’s defence remained resilient throughout the match, with the team retaining their pressure on Barry’s backline and Roscrow making a menace of himself.

The Archers entered the second half with a 3-0 lead and finished the game 4-1 winners.

Eliot Evans was named the Sgorio Man of the Match.

Will Fuller, Cardiff Met FC’s goalkeeper and Student Union President is looking forward to the occasion. He said: “We were delighted with the performance against Barry, to beat our local rivals in such an important game was pleasing as was the manner of the win.

“We have made progress as a club this season winning both the BUCS Premier South and National competitions and beating last year’s points total but it is important that we go one step further by qualifying for Europe. The boys are well prepared, and we’ve spent the week putting together a plan to try and get a win on Sunday.”

Owen Rodgers, Assistant Director of Sport at Cardiff Met, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Cardiff Met FC. They are on the verge of doing something that has never been done before and I could not be prouder of their professionalism and their skill in getting to this point. We will all be rooting for them on Sunday and I will be there willing them on to make their entry into the Europa league.”

Cardiff Met will play Cefn Druids at The Rock Stadium in Wrexham, with kick off at 12:25pm. S4C will broadcast live from The Rock from 12:25pm on both TV and Facebook.
