Ode to Winter

Leaves cascading to the ground

Like butterflies ,coloured, shades of brown

Plants prepare for Winter rest

Now past their glorious Summer best.

The days get darker, evenings longer

Roll on Spring when we feel stronger

Central heating, we hate the cost

Summer sunshine long since lost.

Christmas lights brought some cheer

Coloured ,white and some just clear

Making darker days seem brighter

And our hearts somewhat lighter.

Cards were written, messages sent

Postage the finances dent

Presents purchased ,wrapped with ribbon

Packed with love, they all were given.

New year brings hope and aspirations

Even if bills cause palpitations

January, February, months we dread

So look forward, plan ahead.

When Winter’s over, with Spring now blessed

Plants reawaken from their rest

Full of life, springing forth

In gardens east, south, west and north.

Arrange your Summer break make plans

Remember how we looked with tans

Here’s to another sparkling season

Look forward, for so many reasons.
