Now are the cold winds to stir so swift
The day’s calm air to change
When in its sky will dark clouds drift
Their gloom to constant range,
And then does a storm to gather might
With a rage so far to sweep
To onward rush without respite
With no pause to rest or sleep,
So does an early winter fall
To sun and warmth to flee
With frost and ice to loudly call
To set their firm decree,
And so does this winter become our life
Its chills and damp our ills and strife.
