North Cardiff is set to lose another high street bank, as Barclays has confirmed it will close its community hub in Whitchurch at the end of November.
The hub, based in the Whitchurch Hub on Park Road, has been serving customers since the closure of Barclays’ official Whitchurch branch in 2022.
Residents say the withdrawal of local banking facilities is becoming an increasing problem across the city. In recent months, several major banks have announced closures, cutting off vital face-to-face services for those who still rely on them.
NatWest recently shut two of its Cardiff branches, in Llanishen and Canton, further underlining the shift away from traditional high street banking.
The loss of these services has been felt most by elderly customers, small business owners, and those who prefer or need in-person support rather than digital alternatives.
