Chiropractic clinic Llandaff NorthThere has been a Doctors surgery at 39 Belle Vue Crescent for over 50 years. Up until the mid-90’s it was the main GP practice in Llandaff North before the new Llandaff North Medical Practice was built. It also was used as a location, as a GP practice, in the S4C ‘soap’ Pobol y Cwm for several years especially noted for its ‘old-style’ reception and waiting room area. It would be interesting if anyone has any further information regarding the surgery.

In 2010 the local health authority closed the practice doors and the building was put up for sale. The interior had deteriorated and required significant renovation. Many of the patients had already been relocated to other practices, but it was a shame that it was no longer to be used as a public health centre.

Chiropractor Andrew Miles had been well established at the Llandaff Chiropractic Clinic, Station Road, Llandaff North since 1997 and had been looking for a suitable building to expand into. Although the building had been extended and radically altered to allow for a large GP practice it did require extensive renovation and modernisation to provide healthcare once again. The name change to The Llandaff Clinic (TLC) reflected the wide range of treatment types now on offer.

One of the main issues was the amount of light coming into the building which has been solved by having new technology, low energy spotlights throughout the clinic creating an energy-efficient relaxing atmosphere. The building has been adapted to allow access for disabled patients with large treatment rooms on the ground floor accommodating those with mobility problems. There is extensive parking immediately outside the building and on Station Road.

Chiropractic is a package of care rather than any one specific type of manipulation or treatment. Chiropractors are trained in a range of therapeutic techniques, many involve a specific manipulative technique to restore movement to a restricted joint. These techniques are currently recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) as highly effective in treating back pain. Although chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck pain, which they do very well, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a range of other, related conditions such as headaches, sports injuries, trapped nerves and limb pain. The treatment will vary depending on the condition and will be tailored to the individual.

Chiropractors are highly trained to provide an accurate diagnosis. Before any form of treatment is considered an initial consultation will include:

  • A full health history
  • A detailed physical examination including orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic tests
  • An explanation if further tests are required such as x-rays, MRI/ultrasound scans or a medical referral
  • A detailed report of findings including an accurate diagnosis of your condition
  • A full explanation of the most effective type of treatment recommended for your particular case (this could involve treatment by another practitioner)
  • Treatment (if you and the chiropractor are happy to proceed)

As well as Chiropractic, The Llandaff Clinic now offers a wide range of therapies tailored to the individual including – physiotherapy, podiatry, acupuncture, dietetics, rehabilitation, sports therapy massage and Gyrotonic, a unique form of exercise. Depending on what is diagnosed on the initial visit the patient will be offered the most appropriate form of treatment. Many of the practitioners have been in practice for over fifteen years and will be able to offer expert advice and treatment for a variety of conditions.
